Rosie is undergoing a step in her looming rite of passage; that of getting into college. Yes, it's still 2 years in the future, but it is on her mind a lot these days.
This weekend she took one of her first major steps along the way. She took the Chemistry SAT II Subject test; or as it used to be called back in the day, the Chem Achievement Test.
She has been taking Chemistry this year, so she knows the material the best she ever will. And in addition, the teacher recommended to the class that taking the Subject test (and preparing for it) would be a good preparation for HER Chemistry class final.
They've changed a lot of things around since Ora was at this stage. Moms, remember, we used to take the PSAT in 10th grade and then the SAT several times? Now they take the PSAT at the beginning of 11 th grade and the SAT at the end of 11th grade (and sometimes again at the beginning of 12th).
In any event, Rosie has started racking up those College Board scores (and paying those high testing fees!_) along the way to getting into college. Such an achievement.
A postscript: While Rosie did not complete the test, skipping 5 and not getting to 5 questions, she said that is was easier than her Barron's test prep book sample tests. Another friend had used the Kaplan book, and said that the actual test was much harder than the book. We'll stick with the Barrins for future tests!
Also, if she doesn't like the score, she planning on re-taking it again in the fall.
